All the news items keep saying that this hasn't happened to an officer in the SPD since 1994? While that is accurate, I had to remember KCSO Deputy Steve Cox from almost three years ago. It was such a tragic and senseless story also. It was terrible news for an area of the city that has been trying to turn around for more than the ten years that I've lived in it but, at least everyone was able to take some comfort in knowing that the shooter didn't make it out of the house that night. Regardless, it was still a bad ending any way you looked at it. The thought of officer Brentons killers still walking free is just disgusting and makes this current story so much worse.

Sorry for the threadjack.

Yes the last SPD shooting as mention was in 94, the officer was Tony Terrie. Also Steve Cox King County Sheriff Dept (White Center) 06. This incendent reminds me a lot of Tony's shooting that took place at the Swift Albro exit on I-5. There is still a memorial there at the exit on the left handside at the stop light if you look close enough. My prayers to all whom have give to protect our freedoms and too their families.

From what it sounds like now, the idea of it being a gang initiation is not likely, they say the shooter was very careful about how he pulled up to the cruiser so that not only could the officer in the drivers seat not open his/her door (not sure who was driving) and so that their vehicle or them were not seen on the cruisers onboard camera, I believe they reversed away from the scene. Also one of the witnesses who lived in the apartment across the street described the first set of gun shots as "muffled" and then seven or so more that were loud.

They are also looking into a connection between this and a bunch of cruisers that were torched recently in the downtown area while being worked on at a shop. Police say both incidences were executed with quite a bit of planning. (this could also be a police/media trick to get the person who did it to want to brag, or not you never know)

Jus thought id update, it was in the paper yesterday and didnt look like anyone had mentioned this.

Well if you fired a handgun inside a car like the shooter did the shots will be muffled compared to the officer who was outside the car shooting at the car.

i loved this statement

"Medics have him, and he's being treated by them," Murphy said. "And the last I was with him, he was still alive."
so much care and concern in that statement...that made me laugh

Well, how bout that?

I'm reserving judgment until I see some more details and I hope this was actually the correct son of a bitch.

The dude allegedly pulled a pistol. I'm kind of disappointed that the SPD detectives were such bad shots.
