Unhappy Police assasination near Yesler and MLK
Last night on my way home from Mae's house at about 2AM Yesler was lined with flashing cop cars blocking all intersecting streets. I knew something big was going down because they had nearly the whole force out in one neighborhood. When I reached MLK, i saw police tape and a blockade across the intersection. I went around and quietly parked at home wondering what had happened. Just now I found this:

http://www.king5.com/news/local/Brea...-68182712.html

Apparently someone pulled up to a stopped cruiser at the intersection and fired a few shots into one of the officers unprovoked. He was dead instantly.

I've never lived so close to such a violent event (this is only about four blocks from my home). It's an extremely sad thing to learn and I wish all the best for the family of the officer. We should never have to see these kinds of headlines.

R.I.P. Officer Brenton.

Are you joking? You may have misunderstood. The cruiser was parked already when the other car pulled up next to it and just opened fire immediately. Definitely an assassination.

I just walked down to the memorial on the corner. There are flowers and candles and there are still three or four news vans parked on the curb and camera men getting night shots of the memorial.

Very very sad. It's one thing for such tragedy to befall an officer when they're caught in combat with these criminals, it's quite another for them to get murdered in cold blood.

I know it was parked but that doesn't mean it was someone from a previous related event of sorts, be it the same night or days ago.

I know of MORE than one time where offenders have followed officers home, been told it by the officer them selfs.

I wanted a documentary of an officer who had done a simple traffic stop, I think on someone who ran a red light, pulled him over, gave him a ticket. Seems simple..but later that night the officer was sitting in a empty parking lot writing reports and he saw a car pull up next to him. He thought it was someone with a question, when the car got up to the window it was the guy he had given the ticket too...The guy pulled out a shotgun and pointed it, the officer ducked and stepped on the gas. His patrol car slammed into the offenders vehicle and wedged itself on the drivers side so he couldn't get out. The offender exited his vehicle, stuck the shotgun in the window of the officers car and shot him in the head point blank. I hear the actual recording of the officer (*WHO WAS STILL ALIVE AFTER BEING SHOT*) calling dispatch, all you can hear is gurggling. It was a horribly sobering video to watch and hear. He is still alive but missing a large chunk of his head.

It doesn't matter that he was sitting alone just working, there are generally 2 reasons for this. Revenge out of anger from previous events, or gang related for pride and title. Simple as that.

Hope your not talking about the officer being killed as pay back being a bitch, cause if so..thats a horribly tasteless comment for a thread for a police officer who was just killed.

Although, if your talking about the shooters...Well lets hope so, unfortunately they'll probably get to sit, nice and warm in jail for a while and depending on how young they are, have a chance to get out on probation when they're old.

This is horrible, my condolences to his family, friends, fellow officers.

I think this was a random act of violence, assassination implies specificity. Obviously don't know all the details and could be wrong...but whatever.

My greatest concern is that those in power will use this as cause to further restrict our freedom.

This sucks. RIP to the Officer and prayers for his family.

One highlight of this, the female trainee he had riding with him was also hit. Despite her injuries she radioed that shots had been fired and requested an ambulance then stepped out of the car and engaged the fleeing suspect. To see someone new to the job and it's realities respond in this manner gives me some hope. I hope she chooses to stay in this job.

I agree...I think without her there would be a 0% chance of catching these guys.

Sad thing is, her being new and having to deal with such a tramtic experience. I hope she can stay in the right mindset to push through.

Bravo...that is good to hear, I hope she deals with this well. I also hope that her actions and observations lead to a suitable conclusion to this affair.

I think there has to more to it then the info supplied.

Not meaning the LEO was a "bad guy" or the like.

But for those would did this, knew the repercussions of their actions.

Maybe they where sent out for someone else and this guy got it.

If he was a "good guy", then RIP for the Fam.

Things of this nature are not taken lightly by either sides.

I've Fam on both sides of the coin, which makes me think theres a huge gray area, were not hearing about.

I remember that.

I have a friend up here who used to work in the gang unit down in L.A. as well as a friend who was a former Washington County officer who moved to L.A. to be a detective.

Both have made mention to the fact that gang affiliated people will shoot police officers for 'trophies' more or less...a right of passage, honor and to burn a "respected" name into them by their peers. Its sad, disgusting and horrid.

With the media, theres always things we dont hear, and there is always things we hear that are simply not true, reason 1 I RARELY watch any news anymore.

Many of you prob. heard of the Hillsboro Motor officer last year that was struck by a vehicle while on a traffic stop..the camera mounted on his patrol bike caught the video that made it on the worlds scariest police video shows...When the story broke, I remember them saying he was life flighted in critical condition...When in reality he was driven by ambulance and released the same day with a bruised hip..he got a kick out of the media, but they twist stories so often its hard to decipher truth and lies from media.

This pisses me off! How fucked up is our society that even cops who are given the power to police our laws and protect and serve our citizens get shot in cold blood? I hope SPD catches the bastard and fry his/her ass in the electric chair! If laws are more strict, criminals will think twice before committing crimes! Our jails are overpopulated, if we fry some of the bastards who are serving life in prison, we would save more money feeding those low lives! My condolences to his comrades, colleagues, and friends!

Honestly, laws don't have to be strict. There has to be more likelyhood they'll be caught.

Doesn't matter how bad you make the punishment if people think they can get away with it.

for some reason they say it costs more to kill murderers than to keep them alive in jail.. i cant remember what it was but recently a guy that raped and killed a little girl years ago missed getting lethal injection because they couldnt find a vein and it was "hurting" him. although he was a drug user his whole life.. the bitch attorney on his side is the reason some people never really get what they deserve, somebody know that case? it escapes my mind but id like to look at whats happenin.. 5 points to winner! Im so sorry for the officers family, hope they get closure some way.

Here we go, into the ditch of capitol punishment arguing.

I believe we should empty death row, a 45 slug is cheap, an entire clip is even a good value when compared to 24-7 babysitting.

What a sad and senseless thing to do.
What is even more tragic though is that Law Enforcment officers choose to enter this profession. They know the dangers and face them every day. We as a society have entrusted our well being with them. It is us that feel more vulnerable when some thug decides to do something like this.
How sad...
Prayers to the family and friends...

killing an officer or a fireman for that matter is grounds for death penalty, just as murder plus 1 is. If they catch these guys the shooter even if 16yrs old is going to at least spend every moment of the rest of their life in supermax, prob an 8x6 cell, but more than likely wont ever be released.

maybe theyll catch them in idaho and theyll actually get the firing squad, we still recognize hanging here is washington though I believe unless it was changed since I last was taught.
