What do you guys suggest? I'm not looking to speed, just ride (I know that's weird, but I have gotten enough tickets to last me for a while....). I'm planning on going May 10th to 15th Last edited by Mac_48; 03-11-2010 at 06:14 AM.. |

If that doesn't eat up enough days then head south into Oregon and head down the coast and then when its time to head back turn east and get on I-5 and scoot home. Since it will be wet and off season rates are in effect get some nice accommodations, check in before 4pm, and get dried out, eat hearty and enjoy some local-brews, and socialize with the locals. Also you should be able to get some real nice pictures of a turbulent Oregon Coast. I find riding in the wet can be very relaxing and therapeutic provided you have the gear to handle it. 2. Or how about flying down south--- rent a bike and take some road trips around southern Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, etc. Enjoy the warmer weather 3. For a longer trip but same idea as #2 fly to Florida, rent a bike, and head down to the Keys. Good Luck MkD Last edited by backroad adventurer; 03-10-2010 at 10:26 PM.. |

![]() ![]() | Depends on what time of year you're planning this ride - what dates did you have in mind? What range of miles per day do you feel comfortable riding on your Monster? |

I'm going to try to keep it as cheap as possible. just lookin to go out to rack up some miles since I am going to be leaving the country for a year starting in august. |

St. George is nice that time of year with a visit to Zions National Park and possibly catching some night life in Las Vegas, and you can stage day trips to lots of different places from there or Mesquite or Las Vegas. Mesquite offers some very reasonable motel rates. Check them out on the internet. The Virgin River Casino had room rates under $25/night on week days. To check room rates and reserve your room today, please click here or call 1-877-GETAWAY (877-438-2929). You will find the reviews are a bit mixed. Riding 7-9 hours per day it would take two days to get to St. George. From there you could head down to Phoenix or over to Madrid, New Mexico (were they supposedly filmed Wild Hogs) they have a nice bar, live music weekends and it should be warm enough to camp or you could stay at local lodging. Then back up to Las Vegas or you could head up US93 and spend the night in Pioche, NV (neat little mining town with a nice cafe). Two days back home. If you could push it to Ely Nevada (on Day 4) the Hotel Nevada is a very reasonable place to stay and biker friendly. Last time I stayed there it cost me a little over $30/night. They have a bar and restaurant. There are other places to eat within walking distance. It would make the last two days riding a little easier. Winnemucca, NV would also be a good stop for the evening of Day 4. Check out a map this town is further west and you would have to think about rerouting Day 3 some as well. Good Luck. If you don't mind wet a road trip up to Vancover Island would be another possibility. Cruise the Island then take the ferry from Campbell River to Powell River (There is a hostel in Powell River with reasonable rates). Then run the Sunshine Coast southbound to Vancouver (you will take two short ferry rides), and then home from there. That time of year its not that cold but it can be wet. Which can make camping a drag. You can explore Port Hardy, Port Alice, Tofino, spend some time in Victoria, and lots of nice coastal roads to explore. MkD |

CA. (as mentioned above) like Hwy 3 and Hwy 36. All that right there could take well over a week seeing some of the best views and remote spots of OR and N. CA. |

Come back a similar route and hit up Crater Lake taking backroads once you hit Oregon. From Crater Lake you can take some stellar roads up north ending up in Yakima, WA. Make sure to check out some wine tours once you make it down to Napa Valley. You could also do that around Yakima if you had time too. |

Suggesting a Redwoods/Grand Canyon/Las Vegas/Salt Lake City loop kind of thing. Some guys on advrider have done something similar, camping out every other night. Great info there on cheap motels/restaurants and interesting towns. Save stuff like the aircraft museum in McMinnville, or drinking a beer with the guy in Spokane that introduces you to his wife and sister, and there's only one girl standing there, for when you only have a few days. P.S. Take lots of pictures. |
