Bumping Old Threads

Too bad there isn't a software fix that changes the color of the thread title (to red or whatever)....when that thread is older than a set period of time (maybe a month??)...

It's not an overreaction if it prevents confusion on what the real April meetup will be about, where it'll be, etc.

The last thing we need is people sending Travis paypal payments or showing up to an event that isn't happening.

Outside of special circumstances or OP request, I don't believe that the mods (myself included) have a habit of deleting threads that aren't spam.

Seems kind of lame to blame someone for bumping an old thread when the thread can be locked when requested? Folks can still read it (deleting a thread is also sketchy), they just can't screw around with it anymore.

How about put responsibility on the original poster to request a lock on it, when they so desire?

The thread wasn't "deleted", it was moved to a different section. Additionally, it wasn't an act of censorship. It was done to prevent confusion (as has been noted by several users that the thread was creating).

To your comment of "locking" the thread: A thread that's been dead for 11 months and is many pages back in a given sub-forum is for all intents and purposes "tucked away".

Rather than putting the onus on users to request locks to each of their threads, the general premise would be to use common sense in what does and doesn't get bumped.

One comment I haven't made until now: I didn't find this thread and choose to take action on it. It was reported by several users and I responded to from there. Ties directly back to the "community self-regulating" comment I've made before.

I saw the thread had been bumped and I looked at the last couple of posts to see if someone had added any pictures of the event. I saw Cyndy had put a bunch of the on facebook and I thought there were different ones on there as well.

Perhaps after a certain amount of time with event specific threads the OP can request that it be closed.

Like nakedinseattle said, there could be some obscure piece of information that will need to be referenced 5.8621 years from now as to why a certain type of oil or tyre compound is better than others. Perhaps locking it to avoid mishaps in the future.

And, Finally, to Travis. I may hate on you alot in jest, but I gotta hand it to you. Your events kick ass. Keep up the hard work for the good of the community. I love you like fat kids love cake. You do love cake, don't you?
