PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A motorcyclist was killed when he was struck by a runaway septic tank truck Friday evening.

The truck was parked just before 7 p.m. near the 12200 block of 151st Ct. E., but then started rolling down 151st without a driver on board, sad Det. Ed Troyer with the Pierce County Sheriff's Department.

As the truck crossed 122nd, it struck a motorcyclist, killing him, Troyer said.

The victim's name has not been released and Troyer didn't have any further details about the crash.

The driver of the truck was cited.

He kills guy and only gets cited for negligence and failure to control a vehicle. Now if it rolled into a cop car he'd be in jail. Society thinks that our lives when we ride are worth nothing more than roadkill.

This is very disturbing and sad news. I don't know if I could live with myself if I were the truck driver.

I'm not sure what kind of truck this was but if it was a big enough truck with an air brake system then the air brakes apply when air is released from the system. So without knowing the specifics of the truck this may have been a failure due to lack of maintenance.
