For those of you thinking it's not fair, let's take a more in-depth look at this scenario. I'm sure what he's going to get is worse than a ticket.

When you crash on duty there's a big investigation. Hence them closing the whole freeway. They have to measure the whole roadway for crash reconstruction.

Since it happened in duty, the agency is going to pay for the hospital visit, and the medi flight. They are out about 50 grand I think. Plus cost of bike repair. Unless they can blame some of that on the tar snakes, and get dot to pay for some of it.You bet there's going to be an internal investigation and probably days off as punishment.

If he gets 3 days suspension, that would equate to about 600 bucks. Possibly even removed from bike duty. Much higher than the 124 for speed to fast ticket.

So yeah, no ticket, but he gets a more painful deal in the long run. Plus the daily ribbing from his co-workers.

I spoke specifically about one repercussion that should to apply mutually to either or none of us. I will also point out that I was not the first to bring it up. You then claimed that my statement is ignorant in the same post that you point out that cops get camera tickets...even though clearly I stated that cops don't ticket cops. Ironically ignorant on your part. I responded to people's points with valid points of my own only for you to tell me to get over it.

This part is for more than just you pvster: This is a forum; if you can't handle people discussing things logically, then GTFO off the thread.

I've read this statement a couple of times now. an increase over three years totaling a four-digit (>$1000) increase in rates. This begs the question as to how much you pay for insurance?

I was considering my own rates, that are full coverage, BI, PD, UM, UN, UMPD, Comp, Collision, Accessory, Roadside.

VFR700F $98
CX650T $64
CB700SC $75
XVS1100/A $132
XL1200 $120

That totals $489 per year for five insured bikes. I would have to have a >100% increase in my rates to hit the magic $1k mark. The question that places itself squarely in front of us is how much of a risk does your insurance company underwriting department believe that you are?

I'm certainly not casting any aspersions regarding your insurance rates or perceived risk as a rider. It is possible that I am just out of touch as to how much others are paying for insurance. I have been up on two wheels for 35 years so far. I don't know the quantitative benefit of that in my rates.

No matter what, a gentleman on a motorcycle crashed and got hurt. That is sad. It doesn't matter to me who he was working for at the time.

I was there during the event. Couldn't admit to it earlier, nor can I state all that I know of what happened due to privacy issues. ...hence the reason why I brought up the "tar snake" and the accident history. That's public knowledge and can be easily seen via Google. I can't think of any other on-ramp in the Seattle area with three motorcycle accidents in the same location within the last year.

Mind you, this on-ramp was recently reconstructed as part of the widening project of the SR 531 (172nd St NE) interchange.

The airlift is curious, but I have no problem with police officers, firefighters, medics and first responders taking care of their own if it was at all warranted.
