| WMRRA Qualifier Joined: Feb 2008 From: Tacoma, WA I Ride: Kawasaki zx14 | Drag Racing, Oct 18th (Sat) Pacific Raceways weather permitting..... drag racing pacific (seattle if you're old) raceway saturday the 18th this will be the last chance till spring. ive been 3 times this season, and still haven't hit 9's (10.17@146 is my best). So ill be in pursuit of the 9s, but I would love for a bunch of bikes to show up. Price is $30 things you should know.... bring food and drink. you need a leather jacket (a good riding jacket will also be fine) you need a dot and snell approved helmet (full face), and it can't be destroyed you need leather gloves you need boots that go over the ankles if your bike goes over 120mph in the 1/4 mile, then you'll need leather pants (that is the rule, but they aren't very stringent with requiring leather. they mainly require you to have good riding pants.) if you are wary about coming because you aren't sure how it works, or you're afraid that your times will suck, come anyways. everyone sucks when they start. it's about having a good time in a safe environment. plus it's fun to line up against someone with a similarly fast bike and see who can win! let's get a bunch of people!!!!!! Getting of the blocks is always a good skill and $30 isn't too bad. Question, on average, how many runs do you get an hour? |

Meaning, I'll get >2min of track time excluding staging and what not. Now there is the bonus of watching other people drag race so I'll take that into consideration when I finally decide but what I really need to do is get some of my friends out there or at least try and find some PNWr's because otherwise I won't know anyone. Oh and thanks for getting back to me on my question so fast. |

Last time I raced I only got 3 runs in because 1) a car lost its windshield on the track 2) a car crashed into the wall 3) thunder and lightning. It would be nice to run a few more times to get a feel for drag racing since that was my first time. |

As for bike-prep, no safety-wire required anywhere, coolant in the radiator is fine as long as you have NO leaks anywhere and a catch-can (used soda-can with tie-wraps is acceptable) if your bike tends to overflow when it gets hot. Tires and chains *are* a big deal whether they get through tech or not... the NHRA guys are by-and-large car-guys and they tend to overlook things on bikes once in a while... but believe me, if you toss or part a chain you *will* regret it and drag racing is "severe use" for the entire drive system. Your rear tire is another issue that will cause you problems even if it does slide through tech... if it's thin in the middle, it will NOT hold heat from the burnout and you will have trouble hooking it up. I know that there are those that hold the opinion that "anyone can go fast in a straight line" but believe me, things happen *fast* when you're launching a 150+hp streetbike. It is surprisingly easy to get in trouble if you cannot prevent spinning up the rear tire. One last thing - with more and more bikes being fuel-injected these days, it doesn't get mentioned as much as it used to... but for bikes that do NOT have a tipoover cut-off switch, you WILL be required to have a lanyard attached to your body that will cut the ignition and fuel-pump (if it exists) in the event that you become separated from your machine. It's fairly easy to install one with the factory run/stop switch and if you have a carbureted bike, you WILL need one to get through tech. Oh, and one MORE thing... please please please, those of you with DOT street-tires... go AROUND the water-box - not through it. If you ride through the waterbox with a street tire on the front, you WILL track water up to the launch-pad and everyone behind you in the lanes will be waiting to kill you when you come back down the return-road. ok, ok... last thing. For any of you aspiring to exceed 9.99sec ET's - go to the NHRA.com website and download your forms for your license. If you get your physical done prior to coming to the track, you can easily find people in the pits to sign-off for your licensing requirements (and that way they won't ask you to leave if you DO exceed 9.99sec).
