Hey, another female rider coming to the Yakima area! Nice to meet you. I'm Jennifer; I just hit 20 a few months ago too. Nice to know there's another girl my age on a bike around here; I don't see too many of those.

I've been riding about two years now, although I just recently switched over to sport bikes from a 250 Honda Rebel; I bought my Ninja back at the very end of October, so I haven't gotten the chance to ride it much because of the weather, but now that it's getting nice I'm going to start making up for it.

Question for you, NinjaGirl, just out of curiosity; how tall are you? That 636 sits up pretty high if I remember right. Did you have to alter its height, or are you just not a shorty like me? I'm still debating getting my 650 lowered a bit; I'm 5' 5" and I bought a new pair of boots for it that boosted me up enough to be able to flat foot it on the left foot with the right up off the heel only a little bit, but sometimes when I'm backing it up if the ground's uneven I have trouble getting the leverage to push it back. If only my legs were just an inch longer!

HOORAY!!! ANOTHER GIRLY RIDER!!!! ::HIGH FIVE::
I'm almost 5'3" and I have about a 27" inseam (might be shorter) my legs are VERY short and I have a long torso! The 636 has a 32.5" stock seat height. I actually lowered my bike 3 inches when I first got it to accomodate my midget legs, but I totally hated it!

The bike doesn't perform as well, feels heavy and VERY sluggish in turns. I wouldn't recomend doing it. I haven't modded my seat or anything. My bike is back to stock height and I loves it!! I wear normal sneakers and i'm okay with it. I'm teetering from side to side, but it's something you just learn to work with. I'm used to backing/walking my bike up when i'm on it, but now that it's at normal height, i just get off and bike and walk it. It's kinda hard but i'm getting some arm muscles outa it LOL!! I usually keep the kick stand down when I walk it. That way if I lose control, it'll have a chance of catching the stand and hopefully not hit the ground.

What's the seat height on that Ninja 650R?? I was thinking about buying one, but i think the thing that turned me away from it was the fact that it's carbuerated? Or the fart can on the side. LOL I cant remember what it has. The 650 is a good bike and the seat height i'm sure is in between the 250 and the 636. I'd strongly recomend not lowering it. Save yourself the money and energy! :-D

Take care and hope to see you Thursday 6pm at Miner's... there's a separate thread in the Yakima Section about the Bike Night at Miner's. Check it out!

It does take some used to sitting up higher--I learned on cruisers, so to go from that to a sportbike was like "Holy crap, I'm so high up, ahhh!" lol

I'm pretty wary about lowering the actual bike--I don't want to affect performance, so I was thinking of just getting a different seat. I don't like the stock seat on my Ninja anyway; going into town isn't bad, but by the time I get back to my house, my ass is screaming cuss words at me. lol And I have some buddies over on the west side that I'd like to ride over to so we can hit the roads together, but I KNOW I can't last for 4 hours on that seat. How's the stock seat on the 636 comfort-wise?

I've taken to just getting off the bike and backing it up that way too--I can do that pretty easily because I have good upper body strength, but it makes me nervous about dropping it, although I leave the kickstand down too. Just takes some adjustment, I guess. And the seat height is 31.1 inches on the 650R, so yours is a bit taller; I thought it was.

The 650's fuel-injected, actually. It's a fun bike; I picked it because I wanted something with some nice get-up-and-go but I wanted a more upright riding style than most other sport bikes offer. I love the look of the forward leaning position on a crotch rocket, but it just doesn't look comfortable to me.

I'm pretty busy on weekdays lately--I don't know how many bike nights I'm going to be able to make, but hopefully I'll be able to join up with you guys on a few rides.

yeah they do some crazy stuff, but they're an okay group to ride with. I prefer not to stunt and to keep things like that in an enclosed/controlled environment but eh... oh well. They're nice people and put on some fun event.

1eye you should call me before you come to my work. Just incase I dont have to work all day, we can ride or something!! I'll PM you my digits.
